Cardiac Intensive Care Unit - ICU Tower

Welcome

Welcome to Allen Hospital's Cardiac Intensive Care Unit - ICU Tower. Our staff is committed to providing you with the best care and helping you through this very difficult time.

We encourage your questions and input. Please share any information you feel may help better in care for you.

We are honored you have chosen Allen Hospital in your time of need.

Patient Inquires

Family members may call the ICU directly at (319)235-3540. Please have only one or two designated family members call the ICU so nurses may spend most of their time caring for patients.

Friends may call the ICU waiting area at (319)235-5122 to see how your loved one is doing.

ICU Waiting Area

Allen Hospital has a large group of dedicated volunteers who help with daily operations. The ICU Waiting Area is staffed by an excellent group of volunteers who will help you during your stay.

There are several ways we can help make your stay more comfortable. The volunteer desk maintains a log to help nurses find families that leave the waiting area for awhile. Television and reading materials help pass the time, and coffee and light beverages are available.

Visiting Policy

Our ICU Tower visiting policy is flexible and designed to meet the needs of the patient and family. The following guidelines apply:

  • To assure your loved one gets needed rest, the number of visitors and length of visit may be limited. Please check with nursing staff regarding visiting times.
  • Only immediate family should visit patients in the ICU. Children under age 12 are discouraged from visiting.
  • If visiting is temporarily restricted, family will be informed and may visit as soon as possible thereafter.
  • Visiting is discouraged during the change of shift 7a to 9a and 3p to 5p.
  • Individuals who are disruptive to the patient or the unit will be restricted from visiting.
  • When visiting is done, visitors are asked to return to the ICU waiting area. Please do not stand in the hallways of the unit.
  • People with signs or symptoms of a contagious infection or illness should not visit.
  • Whe the ICU waiting area is crowded or your family is large, we ask that some of your family wait in other areas. We have extra space in the front lobby during the day or the Ambulatory and Cath Lab waiting areas during the evening and night.
