WITH GRADITUDE

I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone for all of your help, support and commitment over the last twelve years.  We have had tremendous success in many areas – all in the provision of Allen Care.  Almost ten years ago, we began to use Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence as our Core Values.  Over the last several years, we have also seen success with our four key goal areas of Quality, Service, Relationships and Operations.  These themes have been very important as we worked together to achieve the remarkable success we have had at Allen and in the community.

We can all be proud of the new facilities, equipment, and services, but what I am most proud of is the same thing

that impressed me from my first day at Allen – Allen associates.  The commitment and level of professionalism I have seen over the last twelve years has been remarkable.  We have also been blessed with a committed, high quality Medical Staff, and Board of Directors and very loyal volunteers without whom our associates could not complete their work.

Over the last year, we have been energized by the expansion of Front Line Design, a new powerful tool of problem solving, which is catching fire throughout the organization in the pursuit of ideal care for all patients.  Everyone here will be engaged in this over the next few years, and I encourage you to commit yourselves fully in order to reap the full benefit.

Finally, I leave behind an outstanding senior leadership team who, I know, will carry on the work we have done for success into the future.

 THANKS RICK!

Some 350 Allen and community guests stopped by to wish Rick and Nancy well as they leave Allen after 12 years of service. Rick begins his new job as president and CEO of Trinity Regional Health System in the Quad Cities June 1. Trinity is an Iowa Health System affiliate, and Rick remains on the IHS email directory if you want to send him a note.

Listening to Patients
by Lois Bonefas

So, what do the Press Ganey Reports and Scorecards tell us?   The Scorecards show us when our patients perceive we do well and when they do not - so we can celebrate successes and recognize areas for improvement.  They tell us how our patients rate the care and service we provide in comparison with other organizations.

It is important for all of us to understand that a lot of research has gone into the questions on the surveys patients complete.  The surveys are designed to show us what is important to patients- and that is what we are all about!  The HCAHPS questions go a step further and ask how often we always meet the patients’ expectations.

So, what are the patients whose lives you have touched in your department or service area saying?   What areas/questions do you see need for improvement or reason to celebrate?   Talk to your co-workers, your managers, or me as we strive to make AllenCare=Ideal Care for every patient, every time.

RED SLIPPERS
Sarah Brown, MSN, RN, Nurse Manager, 3 Heart

If you put on a bed alarm, put on the red slippers.  The slippers are a visual indicator to ALL that this patient is at an increased risk to fall and that they should be transferred and ambulated appropriately.

The bed alarm means “don’t get up by yourself; we are worried about your safety,” the red slippers say the same thing!

Put patient safety at the forefront of every encounter!
