Mary Wells, CEO of Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner, has plenty to smile about with Allen president and CEO John Knox. They were part of a crowd of 200 community members gathered on November 17 at the Sunset Theatre in Sumner. Mary invited them all to celebrate a milestone on the CMH fund drive to replace the current hospital building. The community has raised $1,015,000 to date and plans to complete its community funding goal of $1,500,000 in 2011. CMH associates did their part, too. Every CMH associate contributed to the effort, which raised $164,000 in associate gifts.
|
CMH plans to break ground for the new hospital building in 2011. We will update you when they do. Meanwhile, congratulations to Mary, her staff and the people of Sumner and surrounding communities and farms for an exceptional response to this visionary project.

Last Saturday, twelve OB staff members gathered for a team-building weekend of fun in Marion, IA. Co-workers participated in the 18th Annual Return of the Turkey Trot 8K & 4K, an event which beneifts Horizons-A Family Service Alliance. “The Deadly Dozen”, as they were known at the trot, had a fabulous time walking/running in the cold, wind and rain. One finisher, Marcia Corson, finished the 8K in 3rd place for her age group! Way to go, OB trotters!

American Diabetes Month
November 2010
November is American Diabetes Month, a time to communicate the seriousness of diabetes and the importance of diabetes prevention and control. For years, the American Diabetes Association has used this month as an opportunity to raise awareness of the disease and its serious complications.
With nearly 24 million children and adults in the United States living with diabetes, and an additional 57 million Americans with pre-diabetes at risk, there is no time to waste. One out of every three children born today will face a future with diabetes if current trends continue. Diabetes is not merely a condition. It is a disease with deadly consequences.
The good news is diabetes can be controlled. If it is caught in the pre-diabetes state, it can be prevented! Don’t ignore the chance for better health!
Attend diabetes self-management educational sessions.
Visit the Allen Hospital Diabetes Center and the diabetes risk test.
If you are at risk for diabetes, attend a pre-diabetes class.
Visit the Diabetes Center display in the cafeteria.
