We received the initial results of the Great Place to Work survey that most of you completed recently. Since 1,320 Allen Health System associates completed the survey, the results can be considered valid and a solid base for exploring ways we can improve. Comparable results of the 100 Best places to work were provided for each question. In looking at how we did compared to the 100 Best, it is encouraging to see that Allen associates scored high and very close to the benchmark for questions related to pride. Clearly people feel good about working at Allen and are proud to tell others they work at Allen. Questions related to fairness also scored relatively high next to the benchmark.
|
More of an opportunity for improvement was the area of respect. Questions in this section related to management genuinely seeking and responding to ideas and suggestions from you related to your work environment. These scored considerably lower than the benchmark, and results also indicate we could do more to show appreciation for employees who put in extra work and effort.
We will be providing greater detail of the results at Open Forum meetings and will be focusing on development of an action plan to address those areas where we scored lower than benchmark facilities. Your feedback and participation in this survey is much appreciated, and the information is helpful in telling us where to focus our attention.
On a separate note, I want to congratulate Allen College on their recent successful accreditation. They received accreditation for 10 years for both the BSN and MSN degree programs. Allen College was also named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Great work!

Winter Hall Groundbreaking on the Allen College Campus

Carlton and Thelma Winter owned and operated six Ben Franklin stores in Waterloo. They loved their business and their customers, and were quietly charitable throughout their lives. Carlton passed away in 2000 and Thelma in 2008. That might have been the end of the story, but the couple obviously had other plans. In their estate, they left $13 million to area organizations, including a $2 million bequest to Allen College. Their gift, along with more than 600 gifts from other donors and Allen associates has made it possible for us to break ground on the project.
