One of the topics I want to cover during the next round of Open Forum meetings is how the government is implementing value-based payment for hospitals as part of the Affordable Care Act. Now more than ever, it will be important for us to closely align with physicians to demonstrate improvement in our quality, patient satisfaction and success in reducing cost.
To accomplish this, we need capable physician leaders who are proficient in both the clinical and business aspects of healthcare. To that end, Iowa Health System, in conjunction with the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE), has established the Physician Leadership Academy. Physicians throughout Iowa Health affiliate hospitals who have shown an interest and aptitude for leadership have been invited to complete this rigorous program in management and leadership training.

I invite you to congratulate the following Allen physicians who recently completed this leadership training:
- Russell Adams, M.D., medical director of our hospitalist program
- William Durbin, M.D., Aplington-Parkersburg family practice
- Timothy Horrigan, M.D., chief medical officer
- Bilal Kaaki, M.D., chief of obstetrics and gynecology and 2012 president of the medical staff
- Parag Sampat, M.D., chief medical Information officer and hospitalist
Their leadership is greatly appreciated. Candidates for next year’s program are being reviewed and selected. |

Reminder to Allen Recipients of Iowa Health System / Modern Healthcare Survey
If you are one of the random Allen employees that has recently received the Modern Healthcare Best Places to Work in Healthcare survey, please complete the survey by the end of the day today (August 5) so that Iowa Health System is able to fully participate in the program. Below is additional information on the survey. If you did not get the survey, please disregard.
Iowa Health System is participating in the “Best Places to Work in Healthcare” program created by Modern Healthcare and Best Companies Group. The program is designed to recognize outstanding places of employment within the Healthcare industry.
As part of the program’s process, a random selection of 400 Iowa Health System employees have been asked to complete the online survey. The initial survey arrived in email inboxes on July 22. The survey comes from EmployeeSurvey@BestCompaniesGroup.com with the subject line, “Best Places to Work in Healthcare – Employee Survey.”
The survey is administered by a third-party agency which is solely responsible for tabulating your confidential ratings. Please follow the instructions and submit the survey no later than
August 5. The survey is optional, not mandatory.
This survey is not to be confused with our recent “Great Places to Work” employee survey. The “Best Places to Work in Healthcare” survey is being developed and implemented by outside organizations.
Your honest feedback is extremely valuable to this process. Thank you, in advance, for participating in the “Best Places to Work in Healthcare” survey.

Help Us Meet Our Goal!
When we make good purchasing decisions, it helps us reach our goals in the Share Our Success incentive plan. Below is a tip to help us keep costs down and put us on track to help reach our incentive plan.

Next time you are on Storey Kenworthy, please note the box with the arrow. This is our “Best Buy” listing of items. When you need a product, please look here first. It is the lowest negotiated price on standardized items. If you do not see the item you need then go ahead and purchase normally. All purchases that are not on the “Best Buy” listing are being approved by Purchasing prior to the order being placed. The majority of the items are a brand change and are exact like items. We are already seeing great savings!
If you have any questions you can contact Carol Buckles or Amber Crooks in Purchasing. Thanks for your help in keeping supply costs down!
