| The Environmental Services department will implement a new turn-down service for inpatient guests beginning in January. Two representatives from the department will round all of the floors, check patient rooms for cleanliness and help address any other needs patients and their visitors may have. As part of this service, we will also be freshening up the ICU waiting rooms and working to ensure the comfort of those visitors. Carleisa McGhee and Josie Stalzer will initiate this new AllenCare service. |

Flu Season is On Its Way... |
Did you know that people with the flu can spread it to others up to SIX feet away?
Most experts think that flu viruses are spread mainly by droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze or talk. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. A person may also get the flu by touching a surface or object that has influenza on it and then touching their own mouth or nose. So, remember to wash your hands often and keep your hands away from your face!
Influenza is Very Contagious!
Most healthy adults may be able to infect others beginning 1 day BEFORE symptoms develop and up to 5 to 7 days AFTER becoming sick. Children may pass the virus for longer than 7 days. Symptoms start 1 to 4 days after the virus enters the body. That means that you may be able to pass on the flu to someone else before you know you are sick as well as while you are sick. Some persons can be infected with influenza, but have no symptoms. During this time, those persons may still spread the virus to others.
What is the best way to prevent yourself from getting sick and spreading it to others?
1- Get your influenza vaccination 2- Cover your cough 3- Use proper hand hygiene
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR GETTING YOUR INFLUENZA VACCINATIONS!
REMEMBER: THE MINIMUM EXPECTATION IS THAT EVERYONE SANITIZE THEIR HANDS WHEN ENTERING AND LEAVING A PATIENT ROOM. EVERY PATIENT…EVERY TIME…

What is a Blue Zone Project Community? There are places in the world where people live healthy, happy lives well into their nineties or even 100s. Dubbed “Blue Zones” by National Geographic researcher Dan Buettner, these longevity hotspots share nine lifestyle habits - Power 9™ - responsible for their remarkable results. About 75% of how long we live - and our chances of suffering from a heart attack, diabetes and certain cancers - is determined by our behaviors. By adopting Power 9™, we can transform our well-being and increase our longevity. Blue Zone Project Scoreboard Click here to see how our community compares to others in the state. We need to improve our score. Let this be a challenge to everyone! Please forward this email to your family, friends and co-workers! No Grandparents to Buy For?
Would you like to help a senior who might spend the holidays alone and with no family? Stop at the west end of College Square Mall and upper level of Crossroads Mall. Select a paper ornament from the tree and see a wish from a needy senior. After purchasing, return unwrapped gift to the box located beside the trees. It is that easy to help a senior who is asking for such small items this Christmas. You can make a difference in someone's life and show you care!
