Our hope is that the daily communication emails have been helpful in anticipating the events that will affect your department. The purpose of this newsletter is to advise items that will begin in the near future and will have a large impact on many departments. Below is a list of items that we want to make all parties aware of:

  • Parking Lot 8 will officially shutdown on July 23rd for an estimated 3-month period to prepare the site for a new design. All handicap entrance to and from the building will be directed to Entrance 2. Valet services will remain at Entrance 2 until further notice. Foot traffic into Entrance 8 will be available throughout the project, but it is advised we point as many people to other entrances of the building as possible. We have been working with the City of Waterloo Transportation Department about temporarily dropping the speed limit on Donald Street and installing Electronic Radar detectors in efforts to slow traffic down near the cross walk. It is our first goal to keep Visitors and Staff safe during this period.
  • 2-Central Ambulatory will be moving departments on July 30th to the old 3-Surgical floor. We estimate they will be on this floor till the beginning of September. This will allow our contractors a jump start in this department to reach our end goal of completing phase 1 and 2 before October 15. It is our intent to get both of these departments to their new residence before we go live with EPIC.
  • Please remember that Ambulatory 2-Central is not a passage hallway due to temporary construction walls being installed. All patient and staff traffic needs to be routed down the Laboratory corridor.
  • Planned utility outages may occur with information provided prior to the outage by Plant Services.
  • It was recommended by the contractor to make notice that there will be a lot of work done in various places of the hospital. To make it safe for both parties, all personal belongings need to be out of plain sight and stored in a secure place.
  • Due to this project, you may notice a larger amount of vehicles entering and exiting near Entrance 8. Please take additional precautions when around this location.
  • Due to the nature of construction and demolition, items arise that are not expected such as water leaks, etc. If this occurs, take the following steps: Call Allen Call Center (x2273) and inform location and event of situation. After hours need to call 464-6437 and inform location and event of situation.
  • Loud noises may occur for periods of time. If the noises are causing patient safety and work flow issues, please reach out to your manager. We can stop loud construction and schedule it for different periods of the day to make as least of impact as possible.
  • Random fire alarm tests will occur more often as we embark on the project to ensure the integrity of our fire plan is adequate.

If there are additional questions, please feel free to contact me directly. Again, thank you for your patience and have a great weekend. Ben Stevens, Business Manager of Surgical Services, Office: 319-235-3939, Cell: 319-239-8832, stevenbw@ihs.org
