IQ4: All Systems Go!
It’s been an amazing week. Just seven days ago, we at Allen were unsure how Go Live would work, and the rest of the country was unsure how the elections would unfold. Today, we all have answers. The waiting is over. The ball is in play.
The winners of most political contests share two attributes. You might think it’s money, but the 2012 races proved that’s seldom the case. The deciding factors in most political races are great planning and constant rehearsal. Those same factors are making Allen’s Go Live a success.

We’ve planned Go Live all year. Our teams have rehearsed every day for months, developing knowledge and muscle memory on keyboards and screens. The long days of rehearsal are paying off now in knowing what to do, how to solve problems and how to call for help. Like most winning candidates, we have put in the hard work long before election day. Now we’re beginning to reap the results.
So how are we doing? Let me share comments from two outside observers who know IQ4 well:
“(Allen’s) planning included all aspects of the Go Live process (including the financial side) so that there were no surprises. The end result shows the smoothest Go Live event that we have seen to date in IHS. Not only were all the departments working together on this event, you had physicians who understood the magnitude of this change and equally prepared for this event. Your cardiologists even took time out from their schedule to practice as a team - an unprecedented event to date.”
-Joy Grosser, VP and CIO Iowa Health System Monday, November 5, 2012
“The percentage of orders entered using CPOE – 94% - at Allen is the highest I’ve ever seen at this stage of an Epic Go-Live”.
- Jackie Thornton On-site Epic advisor Thursday, November 8, 2012
Running for office is one thing. Serving people well is quite another. We have set a high bar for Go Live, and we know we can use the system. Now we can turn our attention to making Epic do what we want it to do – help us provide the best outcome for every patient, every time. With Team Allen on the job, I see that happening already.
Thank you all for your devotion to duty. I am proud of you. Tim Tibbetts, CEO
