Great Place to Work® Pulse Survey - Allen Hospital
Your input on how we continue to improve our workplace is very important! That's why we are asking you to participate in this brief Great Place to Work® pulse survey.

We've been focusing on two improvement areas: 1) two-way communication; and 2) appreciation and recognition. From your suggestions, we are working with managers to develop and implement department action plans.

Now is your opportunity to let us know how we're doing in our improvement efforts!

You have from Dec. 3 to 14 to take the brief survey. Your individual responses are completely confidential. Take survey.

Hat, Glove and Scarf collection for George Washington Carver Academy

The Allen Diversity Awareness team during the month of December is collecting winter items for George Washington Carver students. The school is Allen’s “Partner in Education” school and many of the students are in need of hats, gloves and scarfs. So if you have any slightly used or can purchase new hats, stocking caps, gloves or scarfs please locate a blue tub in the cafeteria and leave your donation for the students and families of George Washington Carver Academy. Your donation will make this winter a much warmer one.  Thank you on behalf of the Allen Diversity Awareness Committee.

Parking Lot P8 Re-Opens December 10

We are pleased to announce that parking lot P8 will open on Monday December 10 at 5:00am. The new parking lot consists of 31 parking stalls, of which 25 are handicap, 4 are short-term 30 minute parking, and 2 are physician on-call.  While the parking stalls are a reduction from the previous lot, the new flow of traffic will make for an easier and more user friendly entrance to Allen Hospital.  Volunteers will begin staffing the P8 entrance on Monday morning for wayfinding with valet remaining at Entrance 2 for patients and visitors needing assistance.  Eventually, the plan will be to have Valet Services move back to Entrance 8, but details of this have not been finalized.  Please begin advising patients, visitors, and staff to use Entrance 8 as previously used unless they still would like valet.  If there are any questions at all, please feel free to contact me.  Thank you for your patience while this was under construction.

CODE NAP Drill
On December 4 at 1:30 pm the hospital participated in a Code Nap drill.  The staff response to this drill was excellent.  There are only very minor fall outs from the drill that are being followed up on.  We perform unannounced drills because they are required as part of our hospital accreditation and to evaluate staff response to emergent situations.  We try to make the drills as realistic as possible so we get a realistic response from staff.   I would like to thank the staff of Allen for their dedication to make Allen a safe place for our patients, visitors, and staff.  I would also like to thank the members of the Emergency Management Committee who helped with the evaluation of this drill.

ALLEN COLLEGE ASSOCIATE FEATURED IN CHRISTMAS PRODUCTION
Kristin Teig Torres, who serves as  Allen College’s student life/alumni affairs coordinator and a leader in the Center for Engagement, Learning and Leadership, is appearing in a production of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas.
The production is based on the 1954 movie musical “White Christmas.”   Writing for the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, reviewer Meta Hemenway-Forbes said “‘White Christmas the Musical’ is a delightful song-and-dance show. With 12 different settings and 18 different scenes, it's a big production to pull off. This cast and crew nails it beautifully.”

Sponsored by the Cedar Falls Community Theatre, the production  runs through December 9 at the Oster Regent Theatre in downtown Cedar Falls.   Kristin plays the role of Betty Haynes,  half of a singing sister act.  In her Betty persona, Kristin performs several memorable songs, including “Sisters,”  “Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep,” “Love and the Weather,” and “Love, You Didn’t Do Right by Me.”   Former Saturday Night Live cast member Gary Kroeger is cast opposite of the Betty role as Bob, one of two army buddy entertainers.  Kristin, who has received both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Northern Iowa, has been active in community theatre since completing her undergraduate education at UNI.

She is also an active member of the Allen College chorus which performs its Holiday Concert on tonight, December 6.
