The Allen Child Protection Center is located at 3316 Cedar Heights Drive, Cedar Falls, Iowa, and opens May 3, 2010. The center will conduct evaluations and forensic interviews to provide immediate help for children who have been physically or sexually abused. Allen is working in collaboration with the St. Luke’s Child Protection Center in Cedar Rapids. Children in need of medical exams from physicians will be referred to that center.
Black Hawk County ranks third in Iowa for reported cases of child abuse, but has had no facility to address the problem. Initial funding for the Allen Child Protection Center was provided in a $100,000 legislative grant. The Allen CPC will seek accreditation and permanent funding from the State of Iowa, a process that typically takes two years.
