Truven Top 100 Hospital

Allen Hospital has been named to the 100 Top Hospitals for 2013 by Truven Health Analytics. The awards were announced February 25, 2013. Allen Hospital was named twice for overall performance and Everest Award rapid improvement.

Allen shares the special merit 2013 Everest Award designation with 17 other hospitals nationwide. The Everest Award honors hospitals that have achieved both the highest current performance and the fastest long-term improvement over five years.
Allen shares the 2013 100 Top Hospitals designation with 99 other hospitals across America. We are in the Teaching Hospital cohort of 25 hospitals. Two other Iowa hospitals are on the list: St. Luke’s in Cedar Rapids and Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.

Allen Hospital also is a 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospital for 2013. That award was announced late last fall.  

The Truven Health 100 Top 100 Hospitals study evaluates performance in 10 areas: mortality; medical complications; patient safety; average patient stay; expenses; profitability; patient satisfaction; adherence to clinical standards of care; post-discharge mortality; and readmission rates for acute myocardial infarction, heart failure and pneumonia. The study has been conducted annually since 1993.

Allen Hospital won the 100 Top Hospital award in 2005 and the 100 Top Heart Hospital award (as it was known then) in 2004. This is the first time Allen has won both awards in the same year.

Truven 50 Top Cardiovascular Award

Allen Hospital has been named one of the nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals for 2013 by Truven Health Analytics. This is a big award that every heart hospital wants to win. Just three Iowa hospitals made the list: St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines and Allen Hospital in Waterloo.

The study behind the award examined the performance of more than 1,000 hospitals. It analyzed outcomes for heart failure and heart attack patients who received coronary bypass surgery or angioplasty. You can’t make the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals list just by being good. You must be extraordinary.

Press Ganey Award

Press Ganey honored Allen Hospital's ER with the 2012 Success Story Award for clinical improvement. They recognized our commitment to leadership, organizational change and customer satisfaction.

Platinum Performance Achievement Award

Allen Hospital has just received the2012 ACTION Registry® – GWTG™ Platinum Performance Achievement Award from theAmerican College of Cardiology Foundation.

Allen Heart and Vascular Center has consistently followed treatment guidelines and met a performance standard of 90 percent for specific measures for eight consecutive quarters—delivering exceptional heart care for two straight years. Only 164 hospitals did so nationwide.

Here’s why it matters. You never know when you’ll need heart care.  But you need to know who delivers extraordinary heart care results every day. We know. We do.

 

The Joint Commission Award

Allen Hospital was named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for 2012. The Joint Commission recognized only 18 percent of accredited hospitals in America for this honor.  Only two Iowa hospitals made the list. Here’s why one of them is Allen.

Allen met or exceeded the 95-percent performance target for every accountability measure for which we report data: heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.

That’s a lot of what we do at Allen every day, and The Joint Commission says we do it well.
